Welcome to Five-Star Fun: The Ackerly at Sherwood Retirement Community Now Taking Reservations

on March 16, 2019 at 04:02 AM

The Ackerly at Sherwood — the new retirement community being developed off Highway 99 — is set to open in early July 2019 and is now taking reservations. The Ackerly at Sherwood will be a contemporary community that offers a variety of care services, apartment styles, and amenities to create a five-star senior living experience for every resident.

“As a prior resident of Sherwood, I am delighted to return to the area and lead such an exciting community,” says General Manager, Kirby Blankenship. “The Ackerly at Sherwood will be an amazing new option for Sherwood residents looking to downsize and stay in the town they love. I am dedicated to providing a vibrant experience that enhances the lives of our residents and enriches the Sherwood community.”

Community Involvement

Situated at 16872 SW Edy Rd in Sherwood, OR, 97140, the community is conveniently located near the Providence Medical Center, Walgreens, the YMCA and just blocks from downtown historic Sherwood. When The Ackerly at Sherwood opens this summer, it’ll be the fifth Portland-area retirement community for Seattle-based management company, Leisure Care, which has been in business for more than 40 years. The development firm, Rembold, is a local, family-owned company with extensive experience developing multi-family and senior housing.

Being located in the heart of Sherwood, community is an important focus for The Ackerly at Sherwood already. Operations Director Meghna Davidson says, “We look forward to partnering with organizations in the community and will be sponsoring and participating in Sherwood city events, including Music and Movies in the Park and local festivals.”

Overview of Amenities

According to Blankenship, The Ackerly at Sherwood takes a different approach to senior living called “Five-Star Fun.” Whether residents are active or more laid back, they can look forward to a long list of excellent amenities to make the community feel like home.

“You don’t have to give up anything,” says Sales Manager Beth Eisenberg-Schapera. “You get it all and have the help you need, and you can be in a terrific apartment with all of the amenities.”

There are 137 spacious units, including two-bedroom apartments, and they’re available with full kitchens, washers and dryers, balconies, walk-in closets, and emergency communication systems. There’s also a health and wellness center, pet-friendly outdoor areas, a raised-bed gardening center, outdoor fireplace, library and game lounge, and more. Multiple dining venues offer a large selection of locally-sourced, top-notch food and beverage options.

Every week, there will be a full calendar of activities to ensure there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Some of the most popular include:

  • PrimeFitSM Fitness

  • Brain Fitness by Posit Science®

  • Language Learning by Rosetta Stone®

  • Travel by Leisure CareSM

  • Horticulture Therapy

  • Salon and Barber Shop

  • And lots more

“Typically, you have to move from apartment to apartment as you need help,” adds Eisenberg-Schapera. “In doing so, you lose a lot of amenities, especially the kitchen. But the unique thing about The Ackerly at Sherwood is that you can age in place at our community as every apartment is licensed for assisted living.” Their continuum of care services includes independent living, assisted living, and memory care services with in-house physical therapists and 24-hour staff.
